Join us on this transformative journey to become a more culturally responsive educator.

Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff (HPFS) provides Appalachian State University staff, faculty, retirees, and their spouses/domestic partners with programs and services that help to promote a healthier lifestyle and a better quality of life. Major components of the program include health and fitness, preventive care, and outreach programs. Our facilities are available to all faculty, staff, retirees, and their spouses/domestic partners at no charge.

How to find the "Hidden Gem" (AKA Varisty Gym): If you enter the gymnasium from Rivers Street, immediately upon entering the glass doors, take the stairs (down) to your left (next to the water fountain). There is a "Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff" poster, at the top of the stairs.

If you enter Varsity Gym from the campus side, you are greeted with the Military Science trophy case. Go down the stairs (two flights), pass vending machines (on your left). Walk across the gymnasium floor (short side) toward Rivers Street. Once you are in the lobby, take the stairs (down) to your right (just past restrooms and water fountain).

This workshop introduces participants to the guidelines for creating and sharing digital slides at App State, including communications planning, slide design standards, and side sharing and distribution.

This workshop is appropriate for anyone who wants to create digital slides for distribution to campus.

Mental Health First Aid training (MHFA) is a course designed for individuals interested in learning how to properly support those showing early or worsening signs of a mental health challenge. MHFA training covers anxiety disorders, depression, panic attacks, psychotic disorders, and substance use disorders.

CETLSS will be offering sessions in person as well as virtually throughout 2023. Do you have a group of 5+? Does your group want to attend a session together instead of individually? Go to the CETLSS Website, Workshops & Programs, and Mental Health First Aid to complete our MHFA Group Registration form, and we will be in contact with you to schedule a session! We are happy to come to your department or host a group training within the CETLSS suite.

As a leader, it is imperative we understand the benefits of onboarding and how to support new employees during their onboarding journey. Come learn how orientation and onboarding can lead to improved performance, retention, and engagement among new team members.

Vision: This group is intended to be a support network for staff with kids birth to eight years old. It can be challenging to work full-time and parent full-time, so let’s support each other as we chug along on this journey. We hope that this group offers an opportunity for members to share their experiences, recommend resources, celebrate milestones, commiserate about the challenges, and build relationships with other staff who are parents of young children. We hope that this group allows for community building among staff that are in the trenches of dirty diapers, tantruming toddlers, kids learning to read, and never ending laundry. This group is supportive of Queer and non-traditional family types and all parent (or kid) gender identities and expressions.

Intended Audience: Staff members with children between the ages of birth to 8 years.
